Hi! I'm Diane Imus. I've lived in Hoboken since 1990, and I have a long record of fighting for Hoboken's future. My husband Jay and I moved to the sixth ward in 1999, when many of our friends were leaving for the suburbs. We stayed in Hoboken because we love living in a city that feels like a neighborhood. Here are some of the things I've done for the neighborhood over the past years:
- Opposed the 33 story towers on Pier A
- Helped Launch Hoboken Parks Org to save 1600 Park - and it's now just that....a PARK!
- Partnered with residents to get 9th Street repaved after injuries in the intersection
- Fought NJ Transit's plan to permanently move NY Waterway to Union Dry Dock....and now, they are permanently building in Weehawken!
- I was a founding member of the Hoboken Arts Advisory Council, and worked tirelessly to launch the Garage B Mural
We have major quality of life issues that require a reasonable, common-sense voice at the table who can compromise and execute. This is why I’m running to finish Jen Giattino’s term. And most importantly....we have a 20% population surge coming in already approved development that we must prepare for. Here are my priorities:
-
Community policing & public safety — increase foot/bike patrols, enforce e-bike rules, add blue-light call boxes, and coordinate compassionate services for the unhoused.
-
Smarter planning & infrastructure — slow down growth decisions, plan parking and transit (HOP) strategically, and work to place future projects like a school and community center where they best serve residents and fit within the neighborhoods.

-
Stabilize taxes & cut waste — streamline City Hall, eliminate inefficiency, and protect affordability by prioritizing workforce housing.
- Better parks, streets & Main Street — improve maintenance of parks, sidewalks, and Washington Street; preserve open space and carefully plan community centers and a pool.
-
Fair, transparent housing — ensure affordable units are assigned equitably and prevent corporate landlords from forcing out tenants with massive rent increases.
- End City Hall roadblocks — put residents first, work honestly across the table, regardless of who is there. I will build bridges, not factions.
What do I bring to this equation? A long professional and volunteer history which honed the skills and perspective I need to represent the Sixth.
- I worked at Wiley for 28 years, managing a global team.
- I led an internal agency and was accountable for millions in spend – from budgeting, forecasting, capital projects, planning and reporting.
- I championed the need to change and evolve – and became certified in project management and marketing automation.
- I was always available to my team- as a leader and a mentor. I had to be. It was how I kept the “trains running”
Many of you know I don’t do things halfway – It's not in my DNA. I make time, I mobilize, and I get it done. If elected, my focus will be on being the voice of the Sixth Ward - which to me is a full-time job.
I can't wait to get started!
Diane
